Ethelyn M. Martin, known as Gram, age 91, was called back home by Heavenly Father March 21, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Ioka.
She was born on July 12, 1926, in Worcester, Vermont to Donald H. and Mildred Flora Porter Maxham. Ethelyn married Preston Guy “Stubby” Martin on June 2, 1945, in Worcester, Vermont. Stubby died January 9, 2007.
She worked many years for the State of Vermont in the Highway and Construction Departments until her retirement. Ethelyn was a stalwart Vermonter. She spent many years traveling the back roads of Vermont holding estate auctions with Stubby as the auctioneer. This is where Gram developed a love for antiques and “collecting” vintage items. She loved to dance, was a wonderful cook, an avid reader and loved to crochet. Gram made many sweaters for her grandchildren and loved ones. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her favorite calling was with the Primary children. Gram loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very proud of her twin great-grandson missionaries, who are currently serving in Florida and Uruguay.
Ethelyn is survived by her daughters, Melody (Terry) Scholes, Ioka; Kristal Paquet, Sanford, Maine; 6 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; cousin, David (Maida) Maxham; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mann and Sally Martin; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mildred; step mother, Marjory; husband, “Stubby”; her siblings, Madelyn Kimball, Lucille Singleton, Sylvia Cleveland , and Richard Maxham.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Myton LDS Chapel where a viewing will be held from 10-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in Vermont at a later date.
