Dorrant Freston

J. Dorrant Freston, age 91, of Roosevelt, passed away January 25, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 2, 1924, in Roosevelt, to Jesse Vernal and Dora Jenkins Freston. He graduated with honors from Union High School and then went into the Military. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Germany. He fell in love with the country and the people and would have stayed there the rest of his life, if the military hadn't made him return to the US. After being out of the military for a couple of years, the Korean Conflict began, and he was redrafted into the Air Force, because they had no trained tail gunners. His plane was shot down and only himself and one other person survived.
Upon returning to the states, He married Betty Jo Gathing, they later divorced. He then married Ethelene Mitchell, she later died. On April 18, 1996, he married Elberta R. Scudder. He adored Elberta and they spent many happy years together - some of their favorite pastimes were watching the Utah Jazz together, and racing horses.
Dorrant went to school at USU in Logan and was working towards a degree in Agriculture. Farming and raising horses and other animals was his passion. He grew the best hay around and trained excellent race horses. He was always ready and willing to give assistance, often sharing his backhoe with anyone. He dug a majority of the graves in Neola and Cedarview.
He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He loved his family and is now reunited with his beloved mother, who was his hero.
Dorrant is survived by his wife, Elberta, of Roosevelt; children, Susan Freston (Richard Chacon), Parkdale, OR; Koni Freston, Casper, WY; William David (Valerie) Freston, West Jordan; step-children, Vera Lee Day, Roosevelt; Jeannie Anderson (Gary Hansen), Taylorsville; Mike (Sharon) Scudder, Star, ID; Louie (Kathy) Huett, Riverside, CA; 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dora LaVerne Kirk; brothers and sisters, Randy, Boyd, Wendell, Verna Durfey, and Norma Rae Clark, and a step-son, Archie Huett.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Roosevelt West LDS Stake Center. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors presented by American Legion and VFW Post 64 of Roosevelt and Myton.
