Donna Ann Stansfield Pitt, age 74, of Bridgeland, passed away March 5, 2017, at her home after a battle with cancer.
She was born December 4, 1942, in Roosevelt, to George Reed and Lois Caroline Nielsen Stansfield. She was the oldest of five children. She was raised in Bridgeland and later welcomed Ralph and Linda prior to contracting rhuematic fever. Her next year was spent in Salt Lake at Primary Children’s Hospital with her parents visiting every weekend. Before Donna could come home, the family had to install indoor plumbing. After her recover she welcomed two more siblings, Laurie and Craig. She finished her education and graduated from Duchesne High School in 1962 as Valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation she attended Utah State University until she met and married Wallace Earl Pitt on September 3, 1964, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died July 22, 2012. After LaReta was born, she returned and finished her bachelor’s degree and started working on her Master’s of Education program.
Donna taught elementary in Roosevelt for one year, Duchesne until 1982, retiring from Myton after – in her words – three generations of ear pulling. She was a very patient teacher, but don’t mess with her Diet Coke, and don’t let her know you had a loose tooth...
She was very loving, generous, and would do anything for anyone. She had quite the green thumb, growing all types of flowers all over her yard, especially roses. One of her favorite pastimes was making ceramics, and she really enjoyed traveling and family vacations (even if it was just her and one or two of the grandkids). When traveling, if at all possible, she had to get to Columbus, Montana for her Montana Silver. Although she would never get on a motorcycle, she liked the Harley Davidson style – she was a “Biker Grandma!” She had a great love for animals, starting with her first dog “Gidget” and ending with her Spudsy.
Donna was a wonderful mother and grandmother, spoiling her grand and great-grandchildren almost to the point of no return. She loved to sing them the song, “I love you a bushel and a peck...”
Her legacy will be that she was a teacher to the end.
Donna is survived by her children, Tammy (Ed) Freston, Myton; Carmen Earl (Linda) Pitt, Fruita, CO and LaReta (Lynn) Summarell, Bridgeland; a nephew, Wallace (Judy) Dunsmore, Arcadia; 16 grandchildren, 27½ great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, siblings, Ralph (Jill) Stansfield, Duchesne; Linda (Stan) Bench, Duchesne; Laurie Brummond, Bridgeland; Craig (Lola) Stansfield, Mountain Home; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; parents, Reed and Lois; parents-in-law, Ernest & Vida Pitt; grandson, Jeremy Summarell; great-grandchildren, Heston Summarell, Shawn Dunsmore, & Max Day.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bridgeland LDS Chapel where a viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Friday.
Burial will be in the Bridgeland Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the “Hope Lodge” in Salt Lake City, an organization dedicated to helping those with cancer.
