Donald M Gibbs

Donald M Gibbs, age 75, of LaVerkin, UT, passed away on June 21, 2024. 

Donald was born on June 22, 1948, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Paul Deloss and Wilda Marie Meacham Gibbs. He grew up in Roosevelt and Maeser, Utah, and graduated high school in California. After graduating high school, he worked as a fire fighter and later moved back to the Uintah Basin. He married V. Dawnette Goodrich on September 1, 1972, in Vernal, Utah, where they lived until they decided to move to LaVerkin in 1991. 

Donald worked on the oil rigs throughout Utah’s Uintah Basin, and in Wyoming and Montana. He drove truck and was a talented mechanic. He could fix just about anything, and after seeing complex machines he could later build his own from memory. He was well-known for fixing things for other people. While he was generous with his time and talents, he was a thrifty man. Donald was often on the search for a good deal and would find many items that people considered broken. He would easily fix and flip them. 

Donald was also a talented silver smith, lapidary, gun smith, hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed rock hounding while in the outdoors, and in rock shops across southern Utah. He was notorious for teaching others his talents and trades with his individual teaching style - watch, but don’t touch. 

Donald is survived by his daughter, Angie M. (Steve) Jennings, St George; son, Donald Paul (Lindsey) Gibbs, LaVerkin; 3 grandchildren, Micaela Dawn (Saumya), Dakota McKenzie (Alejandra), & Lincoln Montana Jennings; great-granddaughter, Isabella; and numerous other family and friends.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Wilda, parents-in-law, Clinton and Lena Goodrich, and his dear wife, Dawnette. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Roosevelt Memorial Park. A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at the Hullinger Mortuary.
