Don Miller Sawyers

   Don Miller Sawyers was born on April 15, 1929, in Joseph, Utah.  He was born during the Depression and grew up with an incredible work ethic.  He was a salesman and business owner and, at 88 years old, was still making plans for a new business.
    While work was important to him, his family was what he cherished most.  With six children and seven grandchildren, he had a lot to be thankful for.  Don liked to travel to Oregon to see his daughter Mary and her kids and to Southern Utah to visit his two other daughters, Joanie and Jenny, and his son Chris.
    His children wanted Don to move closer to them so they could help care for him, but as was his custom, Don was stubborn and insisted on living in rural Central Utah, in the small town of Tabiona, where he loved the scenery, the people and his independence.
    That’s where he died on Thursday, November 16, 2017.  He had been recovering from a severe burn earlier in the summer and had never fully regained his strength and health.
    In his 20s, Don attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University. He was a refrigeration mechanic in the US Air Force and served a Mormon mission to New England.  He married Ann Jensen in 1961; they had four children and later divorced. He married Thelma Neptune in 1974; they had two kids and also divorced.
    Don is survived by his children: Bill, Mary, Joanie, Jenny and Chris; his son Matthew died in 2004.  Don was the sixth of eight children.  He is survived by two sisters, Betty and Linda.  Five other siblings preceded Don in death: Maxine, Barbara, Garth, Mary and Jack.
    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tabiona LDS Chapel.  A viewing will be held from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m.
    Burial will be in the Utah Veterans Cemetery, 17111 South Camp Williams Road in Bluffdale on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
