Don Elmer Jorgensen, age 84, of Randlett, died August 16, 2017 peacefully at his home. Don, the fifth child of six children, was born April 6, 1933 in Leota to Oliver Wendell and Ina Elizabeth Ellsworth Jorgensen. Don grew up in Leota. He went to first through eighth grade at Avalon Elementary School and graduated high school at Altera High School. He was a man that knew how to work and was always doing so. He worked at many different types of jobs. He worked as an oil well drilling worker, a cowboy, a surveyor for the US Government, rancher, travel agent, Gilsonite mining, then was able to retire from the Uintah School District as a bus driver and mechanic for 20 years.
He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he decided to go to school. He attended Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Missouri to be an Airline Station Agent. He worked for Frontier Airlines for 19 years, and lived many different places with this company.
When he was living in Vernal, he met and married his wife, Dora Jane Weyerman. They were married in the Logan Temple on June 8, 1959. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage and had five children. They moved and worked in Greybull, Wyoming; Lemon, South Dakota; Chadron, Nebraska; Laramie, Wyoming; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The last placed the family moved to was to Don’s home in Leota in 1974.
In 1997, when the Vernal Temple opened, he was a temple worker for 10 years. He served in many positions in wards and branches in the LDS Church.
Don is survived by his wife, Dora, Leota; his children, Larry (Lorinda) Jorgensen, Alaska; Brad (LaNea) Jorgensen, Meridian, Idaho; Trina (Alma) Stumpp, Idaho Falls; and Merri Lyn (John) Carlson, Boise; 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, as well as one daughter, Ina Louise Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Randlett LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, from 6-8 at the Hullinger Mortuary, and on Tuesday from 10-10:45 at the church.
Burial will be in the Leota Cemetery with military honors.
