Dale Stanley Hanberg, age 86, of Altamont, passed away November 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born December 31, 1937, in Mt. Emmons, to Ray Willard and Elizabeth Stanley Hanberg.  He married Mary Louise Thompson on May 29, 1965, in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dale worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a soil conservationist for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, doing anything outdoors, and playing many types of board and card games – all with his family! He was very generous and service oriented, helping anyone in need – especially making sure the widows and neighbors had enough wood for the winter.  He was a big tease and was a talented whistler which, mixed with his other talent of humming while whistling, drove his wife crazy.  He was a graduate of Brigham Young University and took great pride in singing their fight song, “Rise and Shout!”, every morning at 6:00 a.m. to wake up the family.  In his younger days he was an excellent athlete, basketball being his strongest sport.  His favorite desserts were Creamies and he always shared them with his beloved dog, Jasper.
Dale was active in the church, serving in various callings in the Stake and Ward. He was a scriptorian and had a strong testimony of the power of prayer. He served two missions for the church: Alberta, Canada when he was a young man, and in San Jose, California, with Mary.  One of his favorite things to do was to be together with his family while they sang and played their instruments.
Dale is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary, of Altamont; children, Marcia (David) Oman, Bountiful; Anna Marie (William) Barton, Vernal; Allen (CJ Paz) Hanberg, Tucson, AZ; Nathan (Melissa) Hanberg, Hyrum, UT; Kathy (Josef) Jeffs, Roosevelt; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Linda & Carol Hanberg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Maya Hanberg; his parents; and brothers, Glendon (Zola), Cecil, and Rex Hanberg.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Altamont Stake Center.  There will be viewings on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Altamont Cemetery.
