Colleen McNeil Thacker, of Neola, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the age of 82 at the Sr. Villa.
She was born June 25, 1933 in Francis, Utah, to Horace Delton and Sadie May Nelson McNeil. She married Lowell David Thacker of Heber City in 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
She was the best of moms, being at every school event, leading 4-H and present at every ball game for her kids and grandkids. She had been a great softball player herself in Heber City and enjoyed sports. She loved attending the dances at Wasatch High when it was a Jr. High and High School combination and having a burger afterward at the Wagon Wheel in Heber with other kids and parents doing the same. She enjoyed the chariot races and seeing horses owned by family (Thacker Training Stables) do well in races in Utah and Wyoming. She was a great cook, and gardening/canning person. Her homemade bread/rolls and Thanksgiving stuffing will be well remembered.
The family moved to the Uintah Basin in 1964. She worked at Central Utah Insurance and Uintah Basin Telephone after the kids were grown. The first time she flew on a commercial airline was on a trip to Denver for the phone company. She was there to learn how to use a computer - which she carried with her, weighing about a ton, as all were just learning about this "new technology".
She was "the ear" of the family and always there. She loved the babies that came as children married and continued to enjoy each new arrival that came as years passed. She never stopped loving little children.
She is survived by her spouse of 66 years, Lowell, Neola; five children; LaRae (Larry W.) Taylor; Duane H. (Jackie) Thacker; Jane (Rodney) Rasmussen all of Roosevelt; Neil L (Debbie) Thacker, Bixby, OK; James David (Becky) Thacker, Roosevelt; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a brother, Rick (Loie) Prescott, Ogden.
She was preceded in death by their first child, Wayne David, her parents, as well as three brothers, two sisters, Phillip, Weldon, Michael, Wanda and Barbara.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whiterocks LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held on Monday evening at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6 - 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
Burial in the Heber Cemetery at approximately 2:00 p.m.
Special thanks go to the extended Neola/Whiterocks community where everyone cares for their friends and neighbors and receives in return. Thanks also to the staff at the Sr. Villa for their kindness and excellent care.
