Clifton Hackford

Clifton James Hackford, age 89, of Roosevelt, passed away August 22, 2015, at the Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal.
He was born October 4, 1925, in LaPoint, to George Thomas and Sarah Jane Van Hackford. One of his fondest memories as a young child was performing a Turkey Dance for the Governor of Utah at the grand opening of the Hotel Utah.
He married Opal Elizabeth DeCory and she later died during childbirth. He married Sharon Rae Shaw on August 27, 1963, in Elko, Nevada. She died July 14, 2014.
Cliff was a very hard worker, spending all of his life ranching. He also was a ditch rider for many years, and owned and operated Cliff's Bar and Pool Hall in LaPoint. He was, at one time, the oldest bar tender in the Basin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, looking for "pretty rocks", horse racing, boxing, and a good poker game. He finally bagged his six-point elk on his 80th birthday. His favorite things were being in his mountains and singing and dancing!
Cliff was a giving, caring man who was loved by many. He will greatly missed.
Clifton is survived by his children, Jane (Rex) Thompson, Lewis, CO; Kermit (Shirlene) Hackford, Sandra (Fred) Asay, Randy Hackford, all of Lapoint; Shar (Bill) Cowley, Murray; Roberta Davidson, Cedarview; Jammalee "Jamie" (Jim) Zaccardi, Neola; Clifta (Randy) Quick, Roosevelt; daughter-in-law, Sheila Hackford-Fillingim; son-in-law, Ghery Smith; 44 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Calva LeBaron, Idessa Reber, Clora Whitehead, all of Lapoint; brothers, Calvin (Louise) Hackford, Whiterocks; Mark (Bonnie) Hackford, Lapoint; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Opal, 2nd wife, Sharon; daughter, Judith Cory; sons, Kelly & Mike; grandson, Jesse Richins; great-granddaughter, Treylyn Asay; an infant grandson; sisters, Selma Christensen, Verna Lopez, and 2 infant sisters; and brothers, Doc Van, George, Elmer, & Dick Hackford.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Roosevelt Baptist Church. Viewings will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery.
