Chester Allen “C-Box” “The Ringer” Steele, age 72, of Roosevelt, died on February 2, 2020 at the Uintah Basin Medical Center.
Chester was born on November 16, 1946, in Owyhee, Nevada, to Jim Steele and Leota Arrive. He was raised on the “8-Mile Ranch” in Ibapah, Utah, where he learned to farm and ranch.
Chester was a Community Health Representative for the Goshute Tribe and late a Goshute Tribe Chairman. He worked as a cook and as a night auditor for the Silver Smith Casino, later renamed Montego Bay, in Wendover, Nevada. He was an artist and craftsman, doing pencil sketches, macrame, and leatherwork. Chester also had a green thumb and enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables. He enjoyed hand games. He loved his nieces and nephews and loved to horse around with his nephews.
Chester is survived by his siblings, Ruby Ridesatthedoor, Yellowstone Subdivision; Hilda Rondeau, Crow Agency, Montana; Irene (William) Thompson, Roosevelt; and Helen Steele (Amos Murphy), Ibapah, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Edmund, Herbert Clark, Ray Chris, Alfred, Jesse, Samuel, and Franciso Steele; and a sister, Rosella Undergust.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building.
A wake will be held on Wednesday after 4:00 PM at the community building.
Burial in the Red Knoll Cemetery.
