Charles Reed, Jr

Charles Thompson Reed, Jr., age 75, of Susanville, California, had a sudden heart attack on October 17, 2016, while elk hunting with his brothers in the Rock Creek, Utah area.
He was born June 21, 1941, in Alturas, California, to Charles Thompson Reed, Sr. and Roma Gowdowa Curtis. He was a bronc rider in his younger days and it was at one of these rodeos that he met his future wife, Corrine D Walker. They were married on March 28, 1975, in Reno, NV.
Charles served in the United States Army during the conflict in the Dominican Republic. He worked, for many years, as a horse wrangler for the Bureau of Land Management. He had also worked as a timber-faller. He enjoyed hunting, and being in the outdoors. He was a talented leather worker and his saddles were of excellent craftsmanship.
He was strong in the Native American Church and was a Sundance supporter. He had served as the Tribal Chairman and was currently on the Tribal Council for the Ft. Bidwell Indian Reservation.
Charles had received his bachelor's in business, and spent his entire life learning. He often talked with the tribal elders to learn about the history and culture, and enjoyed teaching his children and others about his traditional ways.
He loved his family and supported his children and grandchildren in their sports and when they danced at Pow Wows all over the country.
Charles is survived by his wife of 41 years, Corrine, children, Kevin Reed, both of Susanville; Keenyn (Misty) Reed, Wadsworth, NV; Kyle Curtis, Valley Center, CA; Hunter (Christine) Reed, Vancouver, WA; Jennifer Bates-Reed, Coos Bay, OR; 7 grandchildren; special nieces and nephews whom he raised, Audie (Sherry) Noneo, Susanville; Debbie Merino, Inchelium, WA; Juanice Noneo, Allissa Hicks, both of Susanville; Tejun Jimenez, Coos Bay; Mindy Padilla, Roosevelt; Steve Jimenez, Redding, CA; brothers and sisters, Charles Conrad (Gwennita) Reed, Sr., Ft. Duchesne; Carlos (Lenna) Reed, Whiterocks Road; Mary Jo Reed, James Connor Reed, Ina Martinez, all of Ft. Duchesne; Lori Lynn (Byron) Rock, Vernal; Gailya Servilican, Nixon, NV; Mona (Jonathan) Caskey, Owyhee, NV; and nephew Kobe Reed., Ft. Duchesne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Patricia Reed, Truman Noneo, Nathan Noneo, Margie Noneo, and David Curtis.
