Cathy Louise Ruiz McDonald
Beloved Wife, Mother, Nana, and Friend
Cathy Louise Ruiz McDonald, age 71, formerly of Roosevelt, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, in Mesquite, Nevada. She walked through breast cancer over three decades ago and has lived a full, beautiful life ever since, filled with love, laughter, and the people who mean everything to her.
Cathy was born in Brea, California, to Louis and Mary Louise Ruiz. She graduated from Valencia High School in Placentia, California, and later built a life grounded in family, meaningful friendships, and unwavering strength. Cathy spent 34 years at Moon Lake Electric, where her dedication and work ethic left a lasting impact.
On November 25, 1994, she married the love of her life, Ken McDonald. Together they created a home that welcomed everyone. Cathy had a special gift for making people feel seen, loved, and part of the family. No matter where “home” was, it was always a place where countless memories were made.
She was an amazing wife, mom, nana, and friend. She loved golf, making new friends wherever she went, and embracing life’s simple joys. Her laugh, her strength, and her unwavering love will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Ken McDonald; her daughter, Jen Nash; her son, Jay Dove; her granddaughters, Katelyn (Joe) Becksted and Kenlee Scott; and her great-grandchildren, Joelyn, Jaclyn, and James. She is also survived by her brothers, Sam Ruiz and John Ruiz, and her sister, Karen Silor.
A funeral service will be held on April 25, 2025, at the Grace Event Center in Roosevelt, Utah, with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. and the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held–an opportunity for family and friends to gather, share memories, and raise a glass in honor of Cathy’s legacy.
Her burial service will take place the following day, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tabiona Cemetery, near the cabin she cherished—her little slice of heaven.
Cathy’s legacy is one of fierce love, quiet strength, and a life lived with purpose and heart. She will be deeply missed and forever celebrated.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to your favorite charity or to a cancer organization of your choice, in honor of Cathy’s strength and resilience.
