Bonnie Rae Fausett, age 85, of Roosevelt, a teacher, athlete, outstanding musician, and perhaps even an outlaw, passed peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal.
She was born at the family’s home in Ft. Duchesne, Utah, on November 5, 1938, to Albert Jr. and Reva Young Daniels. She graduated from Union High School in 1957. In a time when most girls her age were getting married, Bonnie went on to study at Utah State University receiving her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health. While at USU, Bonnie's athletic prowess secured her position on the women's fast-pitch softball team. She was known to have “one hell of an arm!” Her talent ultimately landed her a spot as catcher on Utah's Shamrocks, billed as the oldest organized amateur team in Utah sports and the second oldest softball organization in the world.
As all good Outlaws need their co-conspirator, Bonnie met the love of her life in the fall of 1966. She was known to drive a canary yellow Oldsmobile 442. She was challenged to race down Ioka road by a handsome owner, Richard Fausett, of a white Dodge Charger. Richard won that race, but Bonnie won his heart, and they married a mere two months later on November 22, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they had four children.
Bonnie was an accomplished Saxophonist and music was her second language, solace, and method of bringing beauty into the world. Her musical gift was notable, and it became an enduring legacy. The soulful melody she brought into this world continues to reverberate even as she is no longer with us. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors, but she also liked to dress up when the occasion arose. She was active in the church and was an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple, a calling she truly loved.
As a teacher and counselor, she never gave up on any of her students. She often found a way, or created an avenue, for students to succeed. She encouraged, fought for, and sometimes even forcibly helped many students graduate from high school.
Bonnie’s pride and joy and #1 priority in her life was her family and she was a wonderful grandmother. With her indomitable athleticism, Native American pride, and unwavering energy she handled the hard stuff well. You wanted her on your team – and there are many teams out there who will feel her absence. She left such a mark in this world that her departure leaves an unfillable void.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard; children, Paul (Jennifer) Fausett; Rae (Chad) Orme, all from Roosevelt; Dawnnett Fausett (Tony Ritchie), Idaho; Lowanna Fausett, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Charles “Chuck” Daniels, Robert “Bob” Daniels, Danny (Amy) Daniels, her best friend and sister Rosemary Bigelow, sister-in-law, Pamela Daniels; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in-law, Alice Daniels; and a brother-in-law, Larry Bigelow.
