Blane Steinmetz

Blane Leonard Steinmetz, age 52, passed away on January 19, 2016, when the crab boat he was on the "The Eagle III" capsized going through the Coos Bay Oregon jetty, Blane and two other fisherman drown.
Blane had mentioned several times to his family and friends in his fishing career that "he loved the ocean and if the sea took him he would die happy", well he got his wish.
Blane was born in San Diego, CA on May 11, 1963 with the cord wrapped around his neck three times to James and Marilyn Steinmetz.
He attended high school at Union High in Roosevelt and graduated from Utah State University in Logan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in social work.
Blane loved working with the youth and being in the outdoors. As a child the best punishment was to not allow him to go outside or to take away his drums. It drove Blane crazy!
He married Arla White, in the Jordan River LDS Temple, they later divorced. He later married Julie Machado.
Blane loved life and was quite a daredevil! He placed 7th best in chess in the State of Utah. He also lettered in wrestling and cross country. He enjoyed football, hunting, foozball, darts, writing poetry, telling jokes, but his greatest loves were camping with his family and fishing. Through the years he worked as a counselor to many youth, installed hardwood floors and was a commercial fisherman.
He was a hard worker and he delighted in getting to know people. He was a good friend who would do anything to help others, he was known by many as "Doc", because he would listen and help with their problems.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Machado-Steinmetz, children, James Morry Steinmetz, Hanna Steinmetz, all of Port Orford, OR; Arlana Rae Steinmetz, SLC: step-children, Amy (John) Sad, Vancouver, WA; Tish (Steve) Wick, North Bend, OR; Zachary Machado, Ferndale, CA; mother, Marilyn Steinmetz, Hyrum, UT; siblings, LaRae (Jim) Schaufer, South Jordan; Scott (Karen) Steinmetz, Hyrum; Rebecca (Gary) Stiles, Las Vegas, NV; Aaron Steinmetz, Hyrum; 3 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Steinmetz, sister, Kellie Steinmetz, his grandparents and a nephew, Brett Athren.
Services were held in Port Oxford Oregon and his ashes were scattered at sea.
