Beverly Ann Cook Evans formerly of Altamont, Utah and South Jordan, Utah passed away on February 3, 2025, at the Primrose Retirement Community in Washington, Utah.
Beverly was born on January 26, 1944, in Todd Park, Utah. She was the firstborn of her parents Wilbur and Geraldine Rigby Cook. At the time of her birth her father was stationed overseas in the Army. Upon her father’s return the family moved several times. Finally settling down on the family homestead in Paul, Idaho. Her siblings included Gary, Karen, and Sandy.
In high school Beverly sang with a quartet of her friends, she was a member of the Idaho State Volleyball Team from Minico High School her Senior Year, and Idaho State Debate Champion her Senior year.
On top of all her extracurricular activities in high school she spent many hours working on her family's sugar beet and potato farm. From an early age, she developed a strong work ethic that she maintained throughout her life.
She attended Utah State University in Logan, UT where she was President of her sorority, served as Academic Vice President, and was a member of the USU debate team. While at USU she met Stephen Richard Evans. The two were married on July 31, 1964, in the Logan LDS Temple. After their marriage, the couple settled in Altamont, Utah on the Evans Family Ranch. Both Steve and Beverly were long time educators in the Uintah Basin. They had a wonderful life together and cherished the time they spent with one another.
Beverly taught for a few years at Duchesne High School and Union High School before becoming a school administrator at the Uintah Basin Applied Technology Center. She also taught English at Utah State University – Uintah Basin.
She became heavily involved in community events upon moving to the Uintah Basin. She was involved in the Socialite Club, UBIC (Uintah Basin in Celebration), Uintah Basin Riders Equestrian Drill Team, and instrumental in the beginning of the annual Holly Fair among other things.
As a youth she became active in 4-H. She later organized the Handy Helper’s 4-H club to assist youth with community service activities. She received the 4-H alumni award and is one of the few to receive the Gold Key Award. She enjoyed watching her children compete with the Altamont Night Riders 4-H Horse Club. Beverly was an extremely brilliant and talented individual excelling in anything that she was determined to accomplish.
In 1983 she had the opportunity to spend three months in Somalia, Africa teaching English as a Second Language and acting as a liaison between the Somalian Government and the Utah Team from Utah State University. Beverly always enjoyed learning about other cultures and countries, and this was a unique opportunity for her to serve as well as learn to appreciate the diversity that each country offers.
In 1986 she decided to run for the Utah State House of Representatives. She would serve 12 years in the Utah State House of Representatives and 8 years in the Utah State Senate. While serving in the Utah State Legislature she was focused on education, the oil and gas industry, and improving health care. She enjoyed serving the community in which she lived and learned about the current situations and offered solutions for continuous improvement. This was a collaborative effort with the community and those in whom she served as a representative.
After the death of her husband Steve, on March 31, 2006, she moved to South Jordan, Utah and worked for the Utah State Office of Economic Development until her retirement.
Steve and Beverly were blessed with two children. Their daughter Lorie Ann and son James Elias. They were the most important thing in her life. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorie Womack; son, James (Marilee Moon) Evans; grandsons, Kelton (Abbie) Evans, Rylan Evans, Carson (Kayla) Evans; granddaughter, Maleah Evans; and great grandson, Avery James Evans; and her sisters, Karen (Russ) Hansen and Sandy (Jonathan) Harshman.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve; her son- in- law, Robert Womack; her parents, Wilbur and Geraldine; parents in-law, Bill and Lola Evans; brother, Gary Cook; brothers- in law, Donald Ray Evans, Tom Morton; sisters-in -law, Sheila Evans Lind, Jenean Burton Evans, and Cheryl Evans Thornell.
With the many years of dedication and time spent on behalf of others, she was always grateful for the relationships she developed that left an impact in her life. Beverly truly embraced the 4-H Motto in everything she was involved with, To Make The Best Better! In honor of Beverly, in Lue of Flowers, do a good deed, find someone to serve, help someone in need, provide a kind act of service.
A viewing will be held at the Broomhead Funeral Home located at 12600 2200 W, Riverton, UT 84065 Utah on Saturday Feb. 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM.
Graveside Service and Grave Dedication will take place at the Altamont, Utah Cemetery on Saturday February 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM. Following the graveside service there will be a open house/reception at the Altamont Chapel from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
