Elizabeth Nan "Betty" Dean Hancock, passed away suddenly the morning of November 10, 2015 at age 90. Betty was born September 13, 1925 at Antelope, Utah to Darrell S. and Elsie Marie Dean. She had just finish playing Yahtzee by herself against her siblings, whose names she would write on the score sheet and for whom she would roll the dice in their turn. This time she finally won the game.
Betty grew up about four miles west of Myton until she graduated from high school. During World War II she worked for Western Union as a telegraph operator in Portland, Oregon, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, California. When the war ended she returned to Myton where she fell in love with and married William DeVere Hancock, a farmer in Pleasant Valley where she raised four boys. The family sold the farm and moved to Roosevelt in 1965 where she and DeVere lived the remainder of their lives.
Betty was a woman of faith and testimony having joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints shortly after her marriage and serving in many calling therein, most recently that of Vernal Temple Ordinance Worker.
Betty was an accomplished artist and a poet. She loved to paint in oils and watercolors and was particularly talented creating art using the computer and Microsoft Paint.
Betty is survived by a brother, James O. Dean, Seattle, WA; two sisters, Darlene Thomas, Duchesne; and Colleen Sly, West Jordan; children, Michael (Shauna), Wynnewood, OK; Randall (Sherry), Evanston, WY; Dallas Brad (Patricia), Roosevelt; sixteen grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren, plus one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, DeVere; a son, Jeffrey Shane Hancock; her parents; her step-father, Frank Monks; a brother, Lynn Dean; and a sister, Evangeline (Vangee) Morrell.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt Second Ward Church, with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and also Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary.
Interment at Roosevelt Memorial Park.
