Betty Lou Hicken Gilbert, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, of Roosevelt, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family at age 86.
She was born in Tabiona on August 11, 1929 to Orson Nello and Lorene Ellis Hicken
and shared the same birthday as her mother.
She married Howard LeAndrew Gilbert in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, they were sealed
by Ezra Taft Benson on July 15, 1952. They enjoyed 63 years together and raised six children.
Betty was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held various callings an d was also an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple which she loved. She held various jobs throughout her life and her last official work was with the Gift Shop in the Uintah Basin Medical Center as a pink lady. Her children and grandchildren were the recipients of many treasures these past years that were purchased there.
Our mother loved her friends and neighbors in the Sewing Club which was held every Wednesday evening for many years. Betty was blessed with many talents which include: painting (she painted all of her grandchildren's portraits), decorating many wedding and birthday cakes, gardening, she loved to throw parties, always decorating and was always doing a craft. But her biggest talent was loving her children and grandchildren. Mom was a feisty, fun loving, outspoken, told you what was on her mind, kind of lady. We never wondered where we stood and no one will ever replace our Mom!
Betty is survived by her husband; Howard, children; Randy (Jeneil), Sally (Richard), Brent (Stacy), Karen (Gary), Dianne, Connie (Kevin), 27 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, brothers; Joe Hicken; and her lifelong friends, Beverly Cavanaugh and Sinnikka Condon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Effie and brothers, Gerald and Donald.

East Stake Center. Viewings will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.
