Bettina Julianna Wissiup, age 60, of Myton, died on December 14, 2023, in Roosevelt from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Bettina was born on July 15, 1963, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Chico Wissiup and Madeline Bernice Williams. She married Tamblin Grant Mills and they later divorced. She marred Eddie Charles Perank. He died on March 7, 2021.
Bettina was a strong woman, but she was friendly, always saying hello to strangers and conversing with them. She was always joking and laughing at her own jokes. She was very strict about certain traditions that she learned from her mother. Instead of going to high school, she earned her GED. She worked for the Ute Indian Tribe as a janitor, as an assistant bookkeeper for the Myton Ute Petroleum, and as a cashier at the Ft. Duchesne Ute Petro. Then she worked at Walmart and Maverik. She later went to college classes through BYU and attended UBTech, where she took welding and small business management classes.
In her younger days she had fun with her cousins and friends, drinking, dancing, playing pool, taking her kids swimming, going to carnivals, going to the circus, taking her kids to the drive in, baking cookies, and showing the girls how to make bread. She liked taking pictures of her family, even the back of their heads. She’d loved Jurnee’s dog, Shiloh, who she took on rides and let sleep with her in bed. During the holidays she would take her kids to look at Christmas lights while drinking hot chocolate. Later she took her granddaughters on these special Christmas drives.
We will all miss her stories and always wanting us all at the holidays to come together. We miss her dearly, but she will be reunited wither her husband and her family. She said she wanted to travel to all 50 states, but only made it to the Western side – Now you can, Big Mama; fly high!
Bettina is survived by her children, David Sorensen, Ft. Duchesne; Charmaine Mills, Salt Lake City; Chandra Wissiup, Jamie Wissiup, both of Myton; grandchildren, Shandon, Mehki, Nolan, Kneale, Mason, Junee, Kelisia, Kiara, Isias, Ben, Braton, Marvin; sisters Leslie Wissiup, Chileen Teton; April Wissiup; brothers, Gabriel Wissiup, Arrow Wissiup; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
