Barbara Jean Ashcraft, age 82, of Neola, passed away January 15, 2025, at the Beehive Home in Naples, Utah.
She was born December 13, 1942, in Vernal, Utah, to Roy Davis and Bernice Paulson Butler. She married Robert D. Oberhansly on October 27, 1961. He died October 18, 1982. She married Gerald L. Ashcraft on February 24, 1985 in Neola, Utah. He died April 9, 2016.
Barbara was inspired by her grandmother Paulson, who lived in Jensen, Utah. She was one of the first females to receive a degree in education and become a teacher in 1913. Because of her, Barbara graduated from Uintah High School and then went on to receive her Masters in Education from schools in Utah and Oregon
She taught school for the next 30 plus years at Neola Elementary. Her students and teaching were her main life and priority. She looked after all of her students and took those with less under her wing. Many still remember her as their favorite teacher. She received the Huntsman Excellence in Education Award in 2003 In her spare time Barbara liked to walk and garden.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Barbara was an important branch of our large family tree. She often initiated family reunions at her home in Neola. There would be young cousins playing together, a small rodeo to attend and lots of summertime food. Many of her nieces and nephews hold that small community in northeastern Utah forever in their memories..
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Freestone, Roosevelt; Mindee (Jorge) Rubio, El Paso, Texas; grandchildren, Chad (Heidi) Gault, Mitch (Amanda) Freestone, Bailee (Heston) Allred, Zach Rubio, Isabel Rubio; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rick (Marsha) Davis, Idaho; Mike Davis, Utah; Nancy (Paul) Ebbert, Wyoming; Bill Griswold, Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; husband, Gerald; step-children, Richard Ashcraft, David Ashcraft; a stillborn son, Brian Oberhansly; parents; siblings, Frankie Davis, Patricia Davis, James P. Davis; Donald Davis; Kenneth R. Davis; Edward Griswold; Phyllis Mae Davis; and her step-father, Harry Butler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Neola Chapel. Viewings will be held on Friday evening at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m . and Saturday at the church that morning from 10-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Neola Cemetery.
