Arlene Mountain Appah, age 81, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away October 24, 2015, at her home.
She was born January 19, 1934, in Ft. Duchesne, to James and Sarah Colorow Mountain. She married Thomas Grant Appah on February 24, 1950, in Duchesne. He died May 12, 2008.
Arlene worked, when it was open, at Bottle Hollow Resort as a cashier and front desk clerk. She then stayed home and took care of her family. She was a good cook, and enjoyed embroidery, shopping, flower gardening, drawing, and watching football and basketball, especially the Utah Jazz. She was very traditional and attended Pow Wows, Sundances, and Bear Dances, and would speak to many - often in her native tongue. She had served on the Ute Tribe Senior Citizens' advisory committee.
Her great joy was found in being in the mountains, where the family would fish and have barbeques.
Arlene is survived by her children, Terry Appah, Richardson; Thomasina Appah, Ft. Duchesne; Douglas (Kathy) Appah, Vernal; Eddison (Robyn) Lyman, Vernal; Eric (Dandrea) Appah, Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Kimberlee & Shawndi Appah; Sarah Reede, Natasha, Danielle, Harlie, & Corbyn (Brooke) Lyman, Ava Watts; great-grandchildren, Gracelyne Blackhair, Lily Romero, Blayklee Lyman; a sister, Sylvia Cornpeach, Ft. Duchesne; niece, Margaret Cornpeach; nephews, Richard Jr., Christopher & Jerrod Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, Mike Appah; a stillborn daughter; siblings, Richard Sr.; Lillian, Violet Cuch, Lewis, and Daisy Mountain.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ballard LDS Chapel. There will be a wake at her home in the Richardson Subdivision after 4:00 p.m on Tuesday.
Burial will be in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery
