Alvira “Vie” Leavitt Bastian, age 94, of Neola, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation and Sr. Villa.
Born February 22, 1921 in Park City to George Albert and Margaret Christa Prescott Leavitt, she was the middle of seven children. The family moved to Hayden when she was three. She attended schools in the area and graduated from Alterra High with honors and a grade ahead of everyone her age.
After graduating from high school she worked in Salt Lake City as a cook, housekeeper and nanny for a couple of years. She married Curtis Fernando Bastian on July 29, 1940 in Salt Lake City. They were sealed on April 8, 1982.
She loved dancing and music of any kind. She could make the piano set up and talk. She milked cows, rode horses, ran a farm, raised a big garden of vegetables and flowers, taught a lot of children in 4-H, all while raising a family of five children. She was well known for her love of bright colors and her garden of dahlias. She was also a rock hound. She served on the country 4-H Board and worked for Huish Drug, Eva’s Grocery Store, and several gas stations. She volunteered at the Neola Elementary School and held several different church callings.
She is survived by her five children, Kay (Delance) Allred, Neola; Nita (Darld) Osborne, Fountain Green; Peggy (Blake) Rust, Altonah; Kim (Robin) Bastian, Neola; Jill (Dave) Johnson, Shoshone, ID; 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 16 great, great, grandchildren with one more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Curtis, brothers, Dale, Jack, and Loren Leavitt, sisters, Mildred Allred, Marvel Malnar, Mary Blain, step-son, Don Bastian, 2 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson.
Funeral services held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Neola LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held on Tuesday evening at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6 - 8 p.m. and Wednesday at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
Burial in the Neola Cemetery.
