Alex L Barney, age 84, stepped through the veil on February 26, 2022, in Roosevelt Utah at the Uintah Basin Medical Center of complications of Aspiration Pneumonia and Heart Disease.
Alex was born on January 11, 1938, in Leota, Utah to parents Ray Woodruff and Florine Ellsworth Barney. He grew up on the family farm in Leota, Utah where he developed a love of farming and ranching. He married the love of his life Nellie Gwen Hullinger on December 27, 1958 in Maeser, Utah; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1960. Together they were blessed to have eleven children.
He graduated from ITI Tech with a degree in electronics and was offered a job in Chicago, building computers, but chose to turn it down, because he did not want to raise his family in the city. His heart was always in ranching and farming, and he did that for 70 years, all the while working full time at various jobs including a meat cutter, gilsonite miner, electrician, pumper, water truck driver, appliance technician, and a heavy equipment operator.
Alex was exceptionally talented and could fix anything electronically or mechanical. His work ethic was tireless, and he taught his family the value of hard work and love. He was a great family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family and friends will always remember him as a man that served others, gave of his time and talents and was willing to give others the shirt off his back if needed.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as a Stake and Ward Missionary, Sunday School President, and a Temple Worker. The greatest Legacy Alex leaves behind for his family is his faith and testimony in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Alex is survived by his wife, Nellie, children, Carl (Eleanor) Barney, Clint Barney, Raema (Shayn) Bullock, Sherry Barney, Leslie (Leslie) Barney, Craig (Heather) Barney, Julie Barney Adamson, Lewis (Roxy) Barney; 26 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren with three on the way, sister, Gwenn Brokaw and sister-in-law, Barbara Barney; many nieces, nephews, and cousins
He was preceded in death by children; Cindy, Robin, and June Barney; daughter-in- law, Sarah Barney and grandson, Lance Barney; parents, Ray and Florine Barney; Lester and Feza Hullinger; siblings, Elda, Fred, Vonda, Carl, and Albert; also, many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt Stake Center. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Leota Cemetery.
