Our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother, Ada McKowen Horrocks, was called home by her Father in Heaven on February 18, 2020.
She was born on her mother’s birthday, May 19, 1933, to Burns & Ileene Warr McKowen. She was the 8th child of 18 children, and lived in a three room log house in Bennett. She married the love of her life Roger A. Horrocks on October 13, 1948 and later their marriage was sealed in the Provo Temple on June 12, 1993. She was blessed with five children, Duane, LuAnn, Don, Robin and Jolene. After Roger passed away in 2007, she decided a little dog is what she needed, so she adopted Yorky.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings over the years. Ada worked several years for Beehive Clothing Mill sewing temple clothing until the plant closed. She was a manager for JC Penney in downtown Salt Lake City for many years before moving back home to the Uintah Basin with her husband & starting their own business, “Western Brake Service”, which later became “Horrocks Automotive”. She enjoyed working with her husband.
Ada had a talent for sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting and made several beautiful items. She enjoyed the outdoors working in her yard, gardening, watching & talking to her hummingbirds, and camping with her family. Mom looked forward to her friday morning hair appointments with Ann Zufelt, visiting & laughing about everything & being teased by Ray & loved by Raelynn. She was extremely excited to see her family pavilion being built so that she could have a gathering place for reunions, birthdays, holidays, and especially enjoyed the campfires at the end of the evening hearing everyone tell their funny stories & sharing memories, and just hearing all of the laughter.
Ada is survived by her children, Duane Horrocks, LuAnn (Gary) Sittre, Don Horrocks, Robin (Everett) Daniels, Jolene (Eric) Daniels, and Yorky; grandchildren; Brett & Debby, Scott & Melanie, Scott Eckert, Lori & Jeff, Mark & Freda, Tony, Donny, Gary & Nicole, Gena, Monty & Josie, Matthew, Michael & Amy, Sindi, Mindie & Colten; 30 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren; her siblings, Danny McKowen, JeNiel (Howard) Gardner, Cookie Richmond, Joan (Allen) Hunting, Veda Tomlinson, and her sisters-in-law, Donna McKowen, Pearl McKowen; Fay Horrocks and Bonnie Horrocks, and many nieces & nephews that she loved dearly.
