Sara Hughes

Sara Tonci Hughes, age 58, of Tridell, Utah, passed away July 17, 2016, at her home in Tridell, Utah after a long battle with cancer.

She was born October 15, 1957, in Livorno, Italy, to Aldo and Corradina (nAC.e

Penco) Tonci. She met Milton Hughes while he was stationed in Italy with the U.S. Army in 1979. Her future husband baptized her a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1981. They were married on May 22, 1982, in Layton, Utah.

Sara was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She kept everything together while

the family moved all over the world with the military. She set up homes in Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Fort Meade, Maryland; Seoul, Korea; Puth, the Netherlands; Fort Meade again, the Presidio of Monterey, California; Stuttgart, Germany; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Bliss, Texas; Midwest City, Oklahoma; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and finally in Tridell, Utah. A family motto was "Home is where the Army sends you."

She was the mother of four children: David, Linda, Barbara, and Christine. She nurtured her children as they grew and also as they dealt with cancer and multiple major surgeries.

She was an all-around tutor and a superlative cook. She was a gifted artist, painting and drawing beautiful works of art using various media. She taught by example in everything from forgiving to taking care of stray animals. She was hard-working and took care of the home while her husband had to work long hours, weekends, and while he was deployed.

She enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with her family. Although she liked living near the mountains, she longed for the Mediterranean Sea and took her family there whenever possible. Her physical strength, courage, faith, and love for her children sustained her and allowed her to go through many harsh cancer treatments, procedures, and surgeries.

Sara is survived by her husband, Milton; children, David I. Hughes, both of Tridell, Utah; Linda S. Hughes, Naples, Utah; Barbara A. (Nicholas) Dwyer; Christine Hughes, all of Tridell, Utah; grandchildren, Abram, Adelina, and Corradina Dwyer; her parents, Aldo and Corradina Tonci, a brother, Claudio (Paola) Tonci, and a sister, Rossella (nAC.e Tonci) Mascagni, all of Livorno, Italy. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Twila Hughes, sisters-in-law, Jeanne Joseph and Marie Hughes, both of Layton, Utah; her brother-in-law, Steven Hughes of West Valley, Utah, and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Donald Hughes, and her sister-in-law, Alicia Hughes.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at the Tridell

LDS Chapel with a visitation from 2-2:45 p.m.

Burial will be in the Tridell Cemetery

The family expresses special thanks to Joseph O. Cotton, Edwin C. Kingsley, MD and David Sutherland, MD, and his team.
