Nelson Powell

Nelson Douglas Powell, age 68, of Cedarview, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on August 1, 2016, at Promise Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born March 5, 1948, in Roosevelt, to James Lott and Iva Ellen Nelson Powell.
Nelson worked as a rig hand in the oil field, gilsonite miner, and welder; however, his passion was in farming, where he worked along side his family. Nelson loved to hunt, fish, search for arrowheads, drive his truck, and even blaze his own trails as he went along these journeys. He was always up for an adventure. As the gentle giant he was, he wanted his family and friends to know that he loved and cared for them. He was raised as a member of the LDS Church.
Nelson is survived by a daughter, Misty Madsen (Gary) Lankford, Vernal; two grandchildren, Jordan (Kevin) Slaugh and Tonya Lankford, Vernal; three great-grandchildren, Airon Slaugh, and Kayson Slaugh, Vernal; and Treygan Lankford, Oklahoma; brothers and sister, Boyd (Merle) Powell; Gardell (Joyce) Powell, both of Montwell; Loene Jane Nelson, Salt Lake City; Lars (Afton) Powell, Montwell; Dahl Ray (Jeniel) Powell, Taylorsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Iva; siblings, Vida Powell, Karl Powell, Sandra Aldridge, Janice Bradshaw, an infant brother; and step-mother, Ester Powell.
Funeral services held on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Neola LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing that morning at the church from 10-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Altonah Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
